Acker Holt scored a hat trick and Edi Alvarado earned three assists as the Florence boys soccer team beat Oxford 4-0 in the second round of the Class 6A playoffs.
The Falcons (13-6-1) are in the quarterfinals for the first time since Florence High was formed from the Coffee – Bradshaw merger. They will travel to Fort Payne this weekend.
Alvarado scored the game’s first goal on an assist from Holt before assisting on all of Holt’s goals.
Jon Stewart Ridgeway made a pair of saves. Chase Puryear substituted for Ridgeway and preserved the shutout. Florence led 3-0 at halftime.
Donar Ramos, Kotaro Hino, Kyle Miller and Tyrus Williams each played particularly well for Florence.
The Falcons were originally slated to host Cullman on Tuesday after Cullman beat Oxford in the first round, but Cullman was disqualified from the playoffs due to use of an ineligible player. Oxford was put in the second round in its place.
